Challenging 2020 comes to an end

Dcember 28th 2020 - Matt Flowers

Following the interruption caused by Covid-19 at the start of the year, the curtain came down on the season at Donington Park in late October. A truncated calendar comprising of Oulton Park, Thruxton, Brands Hatch and Donington Park saw Matt finish every race, placing him 12th out of the 47 runners to enter the season.

“It was good to have a 100% finishing record”, reflected Matt at the end of the season. “I think it shows the reliability that we’ve built into the car and it’s something to be proud of. The results, however, need to improve and we have every intention of doing that in 2021. It won’t take much to see us consistently racing at the sharp end and fighting at the front, and we have plans in place to try and achieve that next season”.

The championship now takes a break and will return in the Spring.

Season gets underway in 2020

September 16th 2020 - Matt Flowers

The 2020 season finally began at a very wet Oulton Park in the middle of July. After no action in the first half of the year the first weekend was going to be all about survival, particularly in difficult conditions. This was Matt’s first time out in the car in wet conditions and he was able to come through both races unscathed in 14th and 17th out of 36 runners. “I was disappointed with the results but I think the underlying pace is there and it’s great to finally be back in the car”, said Matt at the end of the meeting.

Thruxton followed in August and it was a tough event for Matt. After qualifying down the order Matt managed to rescue 13th, 15th and 17th in the three races over the weekend. “The pace just wasn’t good enough throughout the weekend and we need to work hard to be back up in the top 10 at Brands.”

At the half way point Matt lies in 11th of the 40 drivers with the aim of pushing into the top 10 of the second half of the year. The championship returns at Brands Hatch on the 26th September.

2020 season update

June 5th 2020 - Matt Flowers

The Covid-19 pandemic has put a stop to competitive racing until 1 July 2020 at the earliest. A revised calendar has been issued for the second half of the year and we’re working on plans to allow us to return to racing as soon as it is safe to do so.

The revised calendar is as follows:

Rounds 1 & 2 - 18 July 2020 - Oulton Park

Rounds 3, 4 & 5 - 23 August 2020 - Thruxton

Rounds 6 & 7 - 27 September 2020 - Brands Hatch

Rounds 8, 9 & 10 - 18 October 2020 - Donington Park

Hopefully we’ll be back on track in July, but in the mean time stay safe and we’ll see you soon!

2020 Season preview

January 3rd 2020 - Matt Flowers

Matt is pleased to announce that he will be returning to the BMW Compact Cup for a full season in 2020. After missing some of the races in the last campaign Matt will be competing all rounds this year and is aiming to move further up the grid.

The season starts at Silverstone on the 22nd March, a track where Matt ran strongly in 2019, achieving his best result of the year of 6th place. It also includes local rounds of Brands Hatch in June, Thruxton in August before concluding at Donington Park in October.

With no significant changes to either the car or the regulations, Matt knows he has to work hard to move up the grid. ‘It’s very competitive and the driving standard is high. It’s great to be involved with but I know I need to get the car in the right place and be on top of my game to score results.’

‘We made good progress in 2019 and learnt a lot about the car. We had some strong results and we need to build on them to ensure that we’re running at the front throughout the 2020 season.’

2019 Season review

January 1 2020 - Matt Flowers

The 2019 BMW Compact Cup came to an end at Donington Park as Matt completed his second season in the Championship. Matt was unable to compete in all the rounds so it was going to be hard to improve on the 8th place position achieved in 2018 and so it proved. An early retirement at Oulton Park put Matt on the back foot, however he came back strongly achieving a 7th place at Oulton Park and a 6th place at Snetterton. Croft in July brought in solid points before Matt sat out the rounds at Anglesey in August.

Silverstone in September brought one of Matt’s strongest performances of the season, coming home in 6th place just off the podium. That form couldn’t be replicated at Donington Park however it was still a season showing signs of potential to be able to move forward in 2020.
